Whale Watching

Whales, whales and more whales.  We are only a half hour drive from some great whale watching boat tour operators.  You will surely have a few tales of the whales to share after. Between May and September, whales can be seen breaching the surface of the water and playing along the local shores. Catching a single glimpse of these huge and majestic mammals is an exciting and awesome experience whether it's from the rail of a boat, the side of your sea kayak or hiking a seaside trail on land.

Activities

The Bonavista Peninsula has a lot to do and many sites to visit, including festivals, boat tours, icebergs, whales, great fishing, hunting, craft sales, golf, hiking trails, skiing, ATV and snowmobile trails.... there is something for everyone.  This area has a long history of farming and in season, you can get a variety of fresh vegetables at local road side stands.

Icebergs

If icebergs are your thing, only a quick half hour drive will start your quest to spotting some amazing bergs. April and May are the months when bergs are most plentiful, but they may be locked up in sea ice, so it's recommended that late May to earlier August is best for viewing (dependant on weather and conditions).  It's always a good idea to check with local boat tour operators for current information.

Puffins

An hour drive will bring you to an amazing place to view puffins.  These beautiful birds are the subject of many photos. Puffin watching is best from May usually until the end of September.  The puffin is also the official bird of Newfoundland and Labrador since 1992. The puffin is also known as the "sea parrot" due in part to its interesting colouring.
